January Challenge Update

This has gone a little slower than I anticipated.... Migraine is clearly to blame!!!
Well, I've sewn together all the blocks of my "Disappering Ninepatch" Quilt, and are now ready for the border. I'm very pleased with the fabric I got, it was the last of it - just enough for me....

Even though I'm not finished with this one, I will show you the next projects I plan to finish.

Remember this??
I split up this UFO,well - there were actually two of them, and turned them from Christmas Calendars into Advent Calendars.

They turned out like this, but I didn't manage to finish it before Christmas. They did work though.... Every Advent Sunday before Christmas a gift appeard in the girls' Calendars - imagine that.... They now need quilting and binding!!

I had to cut off the patchwork part, and it turned into a tablerunner. Yet another WIPS, but I want it ready for next Christmas, so I thought I'd finish it now :o)
It needs cutting, quilting and binding!!

This is a tablerunner I made two years ago, suppose it has merged into an UFO...
I made a Turning Twenty Quilt, which still isn't finished, and made the tablerunner from the leftovers.... It needs quilting and binding!!

Seems like I will be spending a lot of time sewing this week.....
Happy sewing to you all!!! :o)

A bit of everything.....

One of the few sunsets this season, the boat belongs to my in-laws...

This has been a strange summer...... Nothing like the summer I expected; long days in the sun, taking the girls to the park, ice cream, sewing when the girls were playing, going to the mountains, go camping - just spending time together..... We did spend time together - way too much of it...... Is it possible to get a Disney overdose???

I have managed to get a little sewing done, but it has been slow.... These are the three first blocks of my summer project. I'm almost finished with the fourth also... ;-D This is English paperpiecing, so it's learning by doing - man, I'm learning these days!!!

My handsewing in detail.... as I said learning by doing.... I really enjoy sitting with it, but my attention has been very divided. There has been birthdays to bake for and cardmaking for a friend...

My three year old wanted a chocolate bear cake, so I made one. It was a big hit with the other children at the birthday party as well. My friend had her birhday early in July, so I made her a card to go with her gifts.... Proud to announce that I have recruited another member for the quilting community. She got a bundle of fabric, and has already made a table runner and want to do some paperpiecing after seeing my summer project - fun, fun, fun!!

This is a domestic project I finshed today. The fabric was too stiff to be used as a towel alone, so I lined it with thin towel fabric, very pleased with it. The mitten for barbecuing was a bit tricky, but I managed :O) I really enjoy the fabric, the pattern is wonderful, the red and white gives a calm soothing feeling.

Our three year old needs a new bed, and this is an old bed we were given some years ago from a childless neighbour. It will fit her perfectly, she can climb into bed herself, that will put a smile on her face :O) The blanket in the bed is one of my UFO's. I will finish as soon as possible and make it for her. There has to bee some child elements on it, her favourite is Winnie the Pooh. So a bit of application and stitchery will do wonders.....

These are interior details from my sister's house...... My sister is rather busy in the interior department and I enjoy her style. Love this tin platter with all the different candle holders..... The chandelier is beautiful, and with the wallpaper it really makes the room. Me, on the other hand, I clean up after my children and if it is tidy for a while, I read magazines on the matter and dream of living in a New England styled house....

So until next time, enjoy!!! :-D

The weekender travel bag

A whole week has gone by. Well, I haven't been lazy.... Still on the UFO path.

I have finished my second one this week. The Amy Butler; Weekender travel bag.

It was fun to make, but I found that the lining was a bit tricky to fit. I'm quite pleased, in fact I'm wondering if I should make another one........

I didn't use fabric from Amy - this time. I needed it to give a calming feeling. And at the time I couldn't get that from any of the fabric I had to choose between.....

I even finished two pillows I began in May. I'm not quite sure if I can call them UFO's. They haven't been around that long, and I meant to finish them by summer, which I have.

I put on some stitchery, the girls' names and their occupation: Girl pirate.

When does a quilt become an UFO ??? Is there a timeline it has to pass to be granted the title??? I wonder.....

This week I will concentrate on preparing for my summer project. Later in the week I'm going on summer camp.....Karate Camp .....Leaving my husband ande the children to their own.... Knowing him, they will manage just fine!!!

Have a wonderful and eventful week. See you at the other end...... Hopefully not too bruised....

Sunshine and lots of love to you all.

Amy in the corner

Finally.

My first UFO is done, only the rest to go..... I'm quite pleased with it. I like the colours and the differet textures. The quilt is a blend of cotton fabrics and linen.

I started on this one when I attended a Workshop in November last year. The teachers of this workshop have written a book, and the quilt I made is one of the projects in it - highly recommendable.....

For the quilting I sewed "in the ditch" through the blocks and continued the seam on the whole block. I also quilted in the ditch around the green border, on both sides of it. On the outer border I used " borders made easy", which is a pre-made quilting pattern on a roll with adhesive on the back. It was fun to use, but I'm not very good at keeping a straight line if I have to follow one that is alreday there, so I will have to practise on a few other quilts as well.

I didn't use batting for this one, but went with fleece for the back. The reason for this is that those of my quilts that are frequently used, are the ones with fleece on their backs - very simple actually.....

The name if this quilt has its reason as well. The theme of the workshop was Amy Butler's fabric, and the block I used in this quilt is "puss in the corner", thus, Amy in the corner...

I hope you enjoyed this show-and-tell. I had a wonderful time making it. The plan for the rest of my UFO's are - one at the time. Upon finishing this one I've started on the most recent of my projects and I will work my way backwards, whic I found much more inspiring than going all the way back to who knows when....

Have a wonderful and creative week!!
